Meet New:ID: The Newest P-pop Sensation

The P-pop scene has welcomed a new powerhouse with the debut of New:ID, the latest group making waves in the industry. The group's official Philippine debut was marked by an exciting media conference, organized by DNM Entertainment, held on July 24 at the SM North Skydome in Quezon City. The group consists of five talented members: Thad, Macky, Jom, L, and Wilson.

The event was hosted by Lapillus member Chanty, their labelmate under MLD Entertainment—known for managing global boy group HORI7ON and the former girl group Momoland.

Who is New:ID

New:ID stands for "New Identity," symbolizing the group's commitment to reinventing themselves with each comeback. The acronym also nods to Sigmund Freud’s concept of the 'id’. This unique blend of concepts sets the stage for their artistic journey, characterized by a mature and sophisticated approach. "As you can see, my members are quite manly, so you guys can expect a little more mature concept within New:ID’s songs,” Thad shared.

The group's lineup features Thad as the leader, L as the main vocalist, Macky as the main visual and vocalist, Wilson as the performance leader, and Jom, the youngest member, as the main dancer and rapper. With their vocal prowess and dynamic performances, New:ID aims to become one of the top P-pop artists in the Philippines and gain international recognition.

Trainee Journey

Before their debut, the members of New:ID competed in the 2022 Philippine-South Korean boy group survival reality show, 'Dream Maker.' Although they did not make it to the final debut group, their journey continued with rigorous training in South Korea. Over a year and two months, they honed their skills under the guidance of professional Korean instructors.

"Aside from skills, they taught us responsibility, hard work, and patience,” Macky shared. "Hindi lang naman po tungkol sa performance ‘yung pagiging artist. As an artist, dapat all around ka, kaya I’m so thankful to all of our mentors na itinuro sa amin ‘yun in a span of one year," Thad added. Member L reflected on the challenges they faced, saying, "Medyo matagal po ‘yung training sa Korea, and maraming times po na medyo napanghihinaan na kami ng loob pero nandiyan naman po ‘yung members para i-lift up ‘yung bawat is a."

Their comprehensive training has prepared them to excel in all aspects of performance, from dancing to singing and rapping, making them a well-rounded group ready to take on the stage.

Official Debut

New:ID officially entered the music scene with the release of their new tracks "GHOST" and "Muling Magkikita (The Day We Meet Again)" on digital platforms on July 25, 2024. The group's leader, Thad, explained that "GHOST" explores the theme of unrequited love, describing the pain of loving someone who doesn't return the feelings. The music video, shot in Korea, visually portrays themes of one-sided relationships, clones, and the group's transformation.

The second single, "Muling Magkikita (The Day We Meet Again)," written by L, is dedicated to their fans.

A Message to Fans

As the media conference came to a close, the members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their fans who have been with them since Dream Maker. "We are fully honored and thankful to our fans for waiting patiently for our debut. It really means so much to us, coming from our heart. We worked really hard. We are so excited to see you all soon," Wilson said. The group also acknowledged MLD Entertainment for making their debut possible.

The group is currently embarking on a nationwide mall tour, where they promise fans more exciting performances throughout their debut era. With hints of other big events and releases in the future, fans have much to look forward to as they begin their journey in the P-pop world.
